Loyola Mourns The Passing Of Jack Carpenter

Rambler great was a member of Loyola’s All-Decade Team of the 1950s

CHICAGO (March 10, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago mourns the passing of former men's basketball student-athlete Jack Carpenter, who passed away this week at the age of 84. A 1956 graduate of Loyola, the DeKalb, Illinois native played two seasons for the Ramblers and was named to Loyola's 1950s All-Decade Team.
 
In 1955-56, Carpenter led the Ramblers in both scoring and rebounding, with averages of 12.8 and 12.2, respectively. In just two seasons at Loyola, he corralled 529 rebounds in 48 games, finishing with a career average of 11.0 boards per contest.
 
He was the owner and operator of Service Gas, Inc., and a founding partner of The Lincoln Center/The Bottle Stores and Molly's Eatery & Drinkery. Carpenter, who served in the United States Army, earning the rank of captain, is survived by his wife, Dottie, and his four children.
 
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb. Burial will be immediately following the service at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb, Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 13 from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society of a charity of choice.
