Carly Werwie Named Loyola Head Women’s Golf Coach

Kenosha, Wis. native joins Ramblers following two-year stint at Carthage College

CHICAGO (July 19, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago Director of Athletics Steve Watson announced the hiring of Carly Werwie as the program's head women's golf coach on Thursday.  Werwie arrives in Rogers Park after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant with the women's golf program at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.

"I'm excited to announce the hiring of Carly Werwie as our new head women's golf coach," Watson said.  "Her experience both on and off the course made her the perfect choice for this position. Carly is an ideal fit to lead our program and provide a first-class experience for our student-athletes as we continue to strive to be at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference."

During her time at Carthage, Werwie helped lead the team to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Golf Championships.  The Kenosha, Wis. native also oversaw all aspects recruiting for the Lady Reds.

Prior to arriving at Cartage, Werwie played for three years on the LPGA Symetra Tour, where she qualified for the final stage of the association's Q-School on three separate occasions.

Werwie, who was named the state of Wisconsin's Women's Player of the Year back in 2008, was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Wisconsin, where she set a 72-hole scoring record that still stands today.  She was also recognized with the Big Ten Conference's Sportsmanship award following her senior season in 2011.  Werwie's 77.27 career scoring average ranks fourth all-time at Wisconsin.

"I'm truly thrilled to be a part of the Loyola women's golf team and am thankful that Steve Watson has given me the opportunity to lead a great group of young women," Werwie commented.  "Loyola is an outstanding university with a strong support system in both academics and athletics.  I'm looking forward to creating a successful student-athlete experience and making a positive impact on the program."

Werwie earned her Bachelor's Degree in Human Development & Family Studies from Wisconsin in 2011 before earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Carthage in 2018.

Loyola is slated to return five letterwinners from last season in 2018-19, highlighted by All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree Elayna Bowser.  Transfer Sara Posada and freshmen Lorenza Martinez and Jenny Myslinski will also join the Ramblers at the start of the fall season.
