CHICAGO (July 2, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago senior guard
Clayton Custer (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest/Iowa State) has been invited to the prestigious Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp, which will be held August 1-4 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Custer is one of 20 guards in the country to receive an invitation to the Chris Paul Elite Camp.
The reigning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and a 2018 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honoree averaged 13.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game last season, while leading the Ramblers to their first NCAA Final Four appearance in 55 years. In a season to remember, the 6-foot-1 point guard shot a sizzling 52.8 percent (160-for-303) from the field and 45.1 percent (60-for-133) from three-point territory as Loyola recorded a school-record 32 wins.
He will enter the 2018-19 campaign needing 179 points to reach 1,000 for his career. In two seasons with the Ramblers, Custer has helped the program to 50 total wins and last season Loyola went 30-3 with him in the lineup.
Custer also hauled in a handful of other accolades in 2017-18, including National Jesuit Player of the Year, Lou Henson Player of the Year, First Team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 16, NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team, MVC Most Improved Team, and Kansas City Sports Commission Co-Sportsman of the Year. He was also lauded for his accomplishments in the classroom, picking up First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District V, MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team and Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team honors.
