CHICAGO (July 24, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago guard
Bruno Skokna (Zagreb, Croatia) will be competing for a spot on the Croatian National Team when he heads to his native land to participate in camp starting on August 1. The 6-foot-4 junior guard is one of 16 players to have been invited to camp and 12 individuals will be selected for the team and then head to China to compete in the FIBA Borislav Stankovic Continental Champions Cup, August 11-17.
Croatia took home the silver medal in last year's competition.
"It is an honor to represent my homeland, Croatia, and I look forward to competing against some very good players," Skokna said.
In two seasons at Loyola, Skokna has appeared in 70 games and the Ramblers are 15-0 in his career when he scores six or more points. Last season, he was a key reserve on a Loyola team that established a program record with 32 wins and reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time since 1963. Skokna averaged 3.2 points per game in 2017-18, hitting 47 percent (39-for-83) of his field goal attempts and 34.7 percent (17-for-49) of his three-point tries. Coming off the bench, he dropped in a career-best 18 points in a victory over Norfolk State and helped spearhead a victory at Illinois State with 11 first-half points.
Skokna is the second Rambler to play on an international stage this summer, joining senior guard
Marques Townes, who is currently competing for the Dominican Republic National Team at the XXIII Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla.
