Missouri Valley Conference Preview Final Results
CHESTERTON, Ind. (October 16, 2018) –
Senior Elayna Bowser
surged to a runner-up finish as the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team finished its fall season in strong fashion today at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Chesterton, Ind.
The Ramblers turned in their top team showing of the 54-hole event amidst less than ideal conditions at the Sand Creek Country Club (par 72, 6,074 yards), finishing the day with a 327 to move into seventh place at 1,000 (339-334-327). Missouri State (324-318-327=969) held off Bradley (320-323-328) for the team title, while the Bears' Rachel Johnson (79-75-77=231) took home individual medalist honors.
"The conditions over the past two days were the toughest we have seen all season with temperatures in the mid 40s and 10-20 mile per hour wind gusts," Loyola head women's golf coach Carly Werwie
said. "We had some simple short and mental game errors during the first and second rounds but we had a great team talk heading into the final round. I was proud to see how we finished with the second lowest score of the day in very windy conditions. It was a great learning experience and preparation for the MVC Championship in April."
Bowser fired the top individual round of the final round today in Northwest Indiana. The Dearborn, Mich. product capped off a scintillating fall season with a three-over-par 75 to tie for second, alongside Missouri State's Abby Cavaiani (76-76-80=232), with a 232 (81-76-75). Bowser, who led all players with 32 pars, was awarded second place based on a final-round score tiebreaker.
"Elayna played really well during the last two rounds and maintained a positive attitude," Werwie continued. "It's been fun to see her success this fall and how her game has held strong throughout the season. I know she is determined to finish at the top this upcoming spring, as well as the team with how we finished today."
Like Bowser, junior Morgan Brown
enjoyed her top 18-hole performance of the past two days. Out of Lafayette, Ind., Brown posted an 81 that brought her total to 253 (85-87-81) and earned her a share of 25th
. The freshman pairing of Lorenza Martinez
and Jenny Myslinski
tied for 30th
, respectively. Martinez finished the day with an 87 to close play with a 256 (85-84-87), while Myslinski recorded an 84 to finish at 261 (90-87-84). Sophomore Abbey Meyers
, who shot an 89, ended play as part of a tie for 48th
with a 268 (78-81-79).
Loyola lifts the lid on its 2019 spring schedule by visiting Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. for the Motor City Cup, February 4-5.
