Shirley Spork Invitational Final Results

YPSILANTI, Mich. (October 9, 2018) –
Senior Elayna Bowser earned a runner-up finish to pace the attack for the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team on the final day of the Shirley Spork Invitational in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Maroon & Gold posted a final-round 313 to close play as part of a tie for fifth place with Western Michigan (304-317=621) at 621 (308-313).  Bowling Green (297-295=592) coasted to the team title, while the Falcons' Jessica Madry edged out Bowser by three strokes for medalist honors with a three-under-par 141 (71-70).
"I felt we played well as a team in round one and showed improvement from what we worked on this last week in practice," Loyola head women's golf coach Carly Werwie said.  "We gave ourselves some good scoring opportunities in the second round but struggled to capitalize on them.  We have a ton of potential as a team and everyone is gaining experience with each tournament and understanding how to improve their games."
Bowser, who entered the event off back-to-back victories, fired a one-over-par 73 today at the Eagle Crest Golf Club (par 72, 6,170 yards) to finish with an even-par 144 (71-73) for the tournament.  The Dearborn, Mich. native closed Loyola's two-day stay in Eastern Michigan as the team leader in both pars (22) and birdies (7).
"Elayna played well this week and was close to getting a third win," Werwie continued.  "Her attitude was awesome and she continues to be a strong player for us.  We are definitely looking forward to the MVC Preview next week."
The duo of freshman Lorenza Martinez and junior Morgan Brown each turned in their respective top rounds of the past two days.  Martinez carded a 78 that moved her into a tie for 24th at 157 (79-78), while Brown checked in tied for 38th at 161 (81-80) following a final-round 80.
Sophomore Abbey Meyers posted an 84 to finish alongside Brown in 38th with a 161 (77-84) of her own.  Freshman Jenny Myslinski came in two shots back of both Brown and Meyers, registering an 82 today as part of a 163 (81-82) that earned her a share of 43rd.
Loyola closes out its fall season next week, October 15-16, at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Chesterton, Ind.
