Redbird Invitational Final Results

NORMAL, Ill. (September 10, 2018) –
Senior Elayna Bowser capped off a record-setting two-day stretch this afternoon as the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team wrapped up play at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill.

The Maroon & Gold finished play with a team tally of 937 (308-311-318) to tie for ninth overall with fellow MVC foe Evansville (311-315-311=937).  Northern Illinois (288-296-298=882) cruised to the team title, while the Huskies' Brielle Ward claimed individual medalist honors after carding a four-under-par 212 (71-71-70).

"We had some great stretches of good play throughout the weekend," Loyola head women's golf coach Carly Werwie commented.  "There were a couple of mental game mistakes but those are experiences we can learn from.  This team has the ability to do really well and it's just a matter of time for all three rounds to come together."

Bowser used an even-par round of 72 this afternoon at the Weibring Golf Course (par 72, 5,983 yards) to surpass Loyola's previous 54-hole school record of 224, held by Jessie Staed (2014-2018), by three strokes as she finished with a 221 (75-74-72).  The Dearborn, Mich. native closed the event in sole possession of fifth place.

"Elayna played really well this week and set some great goals going into the final round," Werwie continued.  "It's exciting to see her stay focused and play her game."

Sophomore Abbey Meyers capped off a strong two days of her own today in Central Illinois.  A day after establishing a new 18-hole career low following back-to-back rounds of 79, the Columbus, Ohio product shaved two strokes off that total, firing a 77 to earn a share of 31st at 235 (79-79-77).

Freshman Jenny Myslinski turned in an 80 to tie for 60th with a 243 (82-81-80), while fellow freshman Lorenza Martinez came in 63rd at 244 (79-76-89) after a final-round 89.  Sophomore Sabrina Hoskins posted an 89 of her own to share 66th with a 247 (76-82-89).

Loyola returns to action at the start of next week, September 17-18, when it hosts the Loyola Fall Invitational at the Flossmoor Country Club in suburban Flossmoor, Ill.
