CHICAGO – The Loyola University Chicago athletic department is mourning the passing of former men's basketball student-athlete and longtime Loyola supporter Marty Norville. Norville passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the age of 83.
"This has been a difficult week for all of us who care so much about Marty and the entire Norville family," said Director of Athletics Steve Watson. "Marty was a true Loyola man and he will be missed by Ramblers everywhere."
Â
Norville, the brother of Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Al Norville, played basketball for Loyola from 1959-61, and helped the program to a 15-8 record as a junior during the 1960-61 season.
Â
A member of De LaSalle High School's inaugural Hall of Fame Class, Norville went on to have a long and successful professional career in sales before starting Shoreline Aggregate and becoming a major player in road construction across Chicago, Indiana and Michigan.
