Maraya Slatter is set to begin her first season on the Loyola cross country and track & field coaching staff. Slatter, who has spent the past two seasons at UNC Greensboro, will serve as an assistant coach.
"It's a great honor to have this opportunity to join the Loyola athletic department," Slatter commented. "It's a pleasure to be apart of a program that carries such a strong distance tradition. I chose Loyola because of the great facilities they have to offer and the academic prestige they carry for our student-athletes. I look forward to meeting the team and working with our women's team. Go Ramblers!"
This past season, Slatter helped lead UNC Greensboro's women's cross country squad to a third-place finish at the Southern Conference (SOCON) Championships, a two-spot improvement from the previous season. She also experienced success on the recruiting front for the Spartans, landing Foot Locker Nationals Finalist Kathleen Mansure, who went on to be named the 2015 SOCON Freshman of the Year, and, most recently, nationally ranked finalist Taylor Delaney this past November. Prior to arriving at UNC Greensboro, Slatter spent one season as an assistant coach with the cross country program at Charlotte Catholic High School.
Slatter began her career as a student-athlete at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., where she earned Division II Outdoor All-American honors in the 800m run. The Benson, N.C. native would then transfer to Charlotte where she would rack up an impressive list of honors that included four individual Atlantic 10 Conference titles in the 800m run, two league relay crowns in the 4x800m and a pair of regional berths during her time with the 49ers.
Slatter earned her Bachelor's in Criminal Justice to go along with a minor in International Studies from Charlotte in 2014.
