Marty Schiene

  • Title
    Associate Coach
Local product Marty Schiene is set to begin his first season as an associate coach for the Loyola University Chicago men's and women's golf programs.

"We are excited to have Marty work with the men's and women's golf teams in our quest to improve within the Missouri Valley Conference and nationally," Stefan commented. "Marty brings a wealth of coaching, teaching and playing experience and his presence will make us better on and off the golf course. He comes to us from the University of Illinois golf family and has competed in major championships. The Chicagoland area is very important to our program and Marty is a Chicago guy through and through. I can't wait for him to get started."

Following a standout collegiate career at the University of Illinois, where he was named both an All-Big Ten and All-America selection, Schiene spent the better part of 15 years on the Canadian, South African, Asian and Australian Tours, highlighted by a stint on the PGA Tour in 1993. The Chicago Heights, Ill. native has also had the honor of competing in four U.S. Opens and is a three-time winner of the prestigious Illinois Open.

Schiene made a seamless transition into the collegiate coaching ranks when he was selected as the head men's golf coach Chicago State University. He led the Cougars to one of their most successful seasons in program history in 2013-14 as the team posted a four-player stroke average of 315.95, falling less than two strokes shy of a new program record. Schiene also played a major role in the development of David Keenan, who won the school's first individual titles in nearly 10 years during the 2013-14 campaign.

Schiene is a 1980 graduate of Illinois, where he graduated with a business degree.
