Alfie Norville Practice Facility

The Alfie Norville Practice Facility, which houses the Rambler basketball and volleyball teams in their pursuit of continued excellence, was opened in August 2019. The facility features practice courts on two floors, along with a modern film room and an exercise science lab.

Located on the University’s Lake Shore Campus, the facility features a skywalk connected to the Norville Center, which allows student-athletes to access their locker rooms through the skywalk—access that equates to a smaller footprint for the building.

In keeping with Loyola’s commitment to sustainability, “The Alfie” is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified with a green roof, permeable paving in the landscaping, and energy-efficient heating and cooling. The interior also features exposed brick harkening back to the University’s Alumni Gym built in 1923, which was home to Loyola’s 1963 NCAA men’s basketball championship team.

The Alfie Norville Practice Facility is named for the late wife of Allan Norville, a former Loyola men’s basketball standout and Athletics Hall of Fame member. He has a long history of support for Loyola and along with Alfie, made a generous philanthropic gift for the construction of both The Norville Center and The Alfie Norville Practice Facility. Norville’s long-standing involvement with Loyola extends to his years of service on the Board of Trustees and co-chairmanship on the Athletics Leadership Committee.

In 2019, Loyola received the USG NACDA Sustainability Award for its work on The Alfie Norville Practice Facility. The award honors universities for incorporating sustainable practices and materials into their athletics facilities.
