Box Score

FT. WAYNE, Ind. - Senior guard Chris Logan scored a career-high 19 points to lead Loyola University Chicago (1-0) to a 69-61 victory over IPFW (0-1) in the season opener for both teams at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum tonight. The win is Loyola's first in a season opener away from home since 1990.

Loyola jumped on the Mastodons from the get-go, scoring 17 unanswered points to stake claim to a 17-2 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the first half. Logan tossed in eight of his game-high 19 points during that run, while junior Blake Schilb accounted for five points.

IPFW closed the gap to nine at 26-17 with 3:55 left in the period, but the Ramblers finished the half on an 11-4 run to take a 37-21 lead into the break.

The Mastodons, playing their first game under head coach Dane Fife, mounted a furious comeback late in the game to trim a 60-45 deficit to 60-54 with 2:46 left to play. However, despite not posting a basket over the final 5:37 of regulation, the Ramblers held on for the win.

Schilb scored 18 points and added four rebounds, four asissts and a pair of steals, while freshman Leon Young recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench. Tom Levin snagged a career-best 11 boards and chipped in six points for Loyola. Kyle Savely posted 17 points off the bench to pace IPFW.

Loyola returns home to face Evansville on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. That game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
