Dec. 21, 2005

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - San Diego (8-3) shot a blistering 64 percent from the field to snap Loyola University Chicago's (7-2) three-game winning streak with a 90-57 victory tonight at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Ramblers connected on only 35 percent of their shots and turned the ball over 20 times.

From the outset, it was all Toreros as USD raced out to a 13-0 lead before the Ramblers were able to stop the run on Majak Kou's jumper. San Diego hit 7 of 10 shots from beyond the arc in the opening period to open up a 48-23 lead at the half. Loyola meanwhile, was 0 for 7 from long range, and hit only 26 percent of its tries from the field.

Loyola would get no closer than 22 points in the second half and San Diego broke the game open with a 23-10 run that gave it an 85-47 lead with 5:35 left to play.

Junior guard Blake Schilb saw his string of consecutive games in double-figure scoring halted at 32 as he was limited to only three points, while going 0 for 6 from the field. Freshman J.R. Blount tallied a team-high 14 points and Tom Levin tossed in a season-high 10 points. Junior forward Brandon Woods, seeing his first significant action of the season since returning from a knee injury, sprung for 10 points, in only 17 minutes, off the bench.

Four Toreros scored in double figures led by Nick Lewis' game-high 21 points.

Loyola looks to bounce back when it travels to UC Irvine on Dec. 22.
