CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago freshman Leon Young (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) has been selected as the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced this morning. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of contests last week as the Ramblers went 1-1 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
In Loyola's 86-72 victory over Bradley on Nov. 30, Young recorded a season-high 21 points to go with 10 rebounds, hitting 7 of 12 shots from the field and all seven of his tries from the foul line, en route to his third double-double of the year. In that game, he and fellow freshman J.R. Blount became the first Rambler freshman duo to ever post 20 or more points in a single contest. Young accounted for 11 rebounds and added nine points at Northern Iowa on Dec. 3.
Young is averaging 12.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg despite coming off of the bench in Loyola's first five outings of the year. He has grabbed 10 or more boards in four contests already this season.
Loyola returns to action when it hosts Western Illinois on Dec. 6.
