Krause, Solava Pave Way To Victory Over Cleveland State

April 22, 2007

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Behind the bat of junior slugger Kat Krause and the solid pitching and hitting of freshman Amy Solava, Loyola University Chicago (16-15, 11-2 Horizon) rolled to a 7-1 victory over Cleveland State (19-12, 2-6 Horizon) this afternoon at Viking Field. The Ramblers swept a series from a conference foe for the third time this season and improved to 7-1 on the road in League play in addition to climbing over the .500 mark for the first time since 2004.

Much like in game one of yesterday's doubleheader, Loyola jumped on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring three times again CSU starter Amanda Macenko. Ashley Mitchell led off the game with a base hit and after Lindsay O'Gean reached on an error, Krause smacked a two-run double to give the Ramblers a 2-0 lead. Loyola added to that advantage when Krause scored on Kristen Medrud's RBI single, to put the Ramblers ahead, 3-0.

Cleveland State cut into the Loyola lead in the bottom of the first on Sarah Milosek's RBI double, but the Ramblers put the game away with three more runs in the third to take a 6-1 advantage. Krause walloped a two-run homer, her ninth of the season, and Tara Miller delivered a run-scoring double to seal the outcome. Nora Schober provided the final margin by blasting a solo home run to left field to lead off the sixth inning.

Krause went 3 for 4 with four RBI, a double and a home run to spark a Loyola offense that banged out 12 hits on the day. Mitchell, Solava and Raven Gengler had two hits apiece, and Solava also picked up her ninth win of the year, tossing 6.1 innings of scoreless relief, while striking out seven.

Loyola is back in action when it hosts No. 17 DePaul in a single game on April 26.
