Box Score
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Kristina Rendle's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning scored the winning run to lift host Youngstown State (3-16, 1-2 Horizon) to a 1-0 victory over Loyola University Chicago (13-8, 2-1 Horizon) this afternoon. With the loss, the Ramblers see their four-game winning streak come to an end, and fall to 2-2 in extra-inning contests this season.
Loyola had scoring chances in the second, third and seventh innings, but left runners in scoring position in each of those frames.
In the ninth, Kristen Philen led off with a walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Amanda Palmore's single to left moved Philen to third and Palmore advanced to second on the throw, to set the stage for Rendle's heroics.
Krista Crosson suffered a hard-luck loss for Loyola to drop to 7-3 on the year. The right-hander scattered eight hits and struck out six in 8.2 innings of work. Five different Ramblers managed a hit off of Penguins starter Cheryl Cale.
The Ramblers are back in action Tuesday when they travel downstate to Illinois for a single game.
