Windon Memorial Day One Results

GLENCOE, Ill. - Freshman Orion Yamat fired a one-over-par 143 to pace the attack for the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team on the opening day of the 19th Annual Windon Memorial in Glencoe, Ill. Yamat was one of three Ramblers to fire a season-low round today. Play was suspended due to darkness with one group yet to finish second-round play.

Loyola finds itself in 14th place in the team standings after posting a two-round total of 596 (294-302), highlighted by a sizzling round of 294 to open the day at the par 71, 6,844-yard course at the Lake Shore Country Club. Purdue (281-272=553) sits atop the team leaderboard, holding an eight-stroke lead on second-place Michigan (282-279=561) with host Northwestern (284-281=565) residing in third. The Boilermakers' Stuart Macdonald leads a hotly-contested top 10 in the race for medalist honors after carding a four-under-par 135 (68-67).

Yamat (70-73) turned in the strongest showing of his young career on Sunday in Chicago's Northern Suburbs. The Niles, Ill. product opened the day by recording a one-under-par 70 during first-round play, the low round of the day for the Maroon & Gold, before closing the afternoon with a 73 to put himself in a tie for 18th place on the individual leaderboard. Not far behind Yamat is junior Michael Valletti (73-75). Like his freshman counterpart, Valletti, out of Plano, Texas, raced out of the gate during the morning, carding a season-low round of 73 en route to a 148 that has him tied for 48th.

Currently tied for 69th is the duo of senior PJ Riner (73-80) and junior Ben Holm (78-75) after each turned in a score of 153. Riner used a season-low round of 73 in first-round play to setup his day, while Holm notched a 75 to wrap up the afternoon, shaving three strokes off of his first-round score. Rounding out the Rambler starting five was sophomore Garret Buckley (81-79), who sits in a tie for 77th at 160.

Following the completion of second-round play, the final round of the Windon Memorial will take place on Monday with tee times scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Fans can follow Golfstat.com for live results.
