Bradley Spring Invitational Final Results
PEORIA, Ill. - Three Ramblers carded scores in the mid 70s as the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team wrapped up play today at the Bradley Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ill.
The Ramblers successfully improved their team score throughout each round of the 54-hole event, highlighted by a final-round 303 today that saw the Maroon & Gold finish fourth at 922 (310-309-303). Host Bradley (302-293-296) took home the team title, while the Braves' Lyle Burns (71-75-73) held on to his lead atop the individual leaderboard from Sunday to capture medalist honors.
"Great work by PJ (Riner) this week," Loyola Director of Golf Erik Hoops said. "That was a senior type of tournament with the conditions and there was no doubt in my mind that he was probably the strongest player tee to green in the field. He got some bad breaks for sure yesterday and today, but that's just golf. PJ's gearing up for a great finish to a great career. Everyone else played really well for stretches and I am really thinking we will have a great tournament at Ball State this weekend as one final tune-up before MVC!"
Leading the way on Monday for Loyola at the WeaverRidge Golf Club (par 72, 7,030 yards) was sophomore Garret Buckley. The Novi, Mich. native fired a one-over-par round of 73, the low round of the day for a Rambler, to climb ten spots on the leaderboard en route to earning a share of 14th place at 234 (80-81-73).
Not far behind Buckley was the pairing of senior PJ Riner and junior Michael Valletti. Riner, out of Johns Creek, Ga., carded a two-over-par 74 that brought his 54-hole total to 221 (78-69-74). The senior finished just two strokes off the pace set by Burns. Like Buckley, Valletti used a final-round flurry to ascend the leaderboard as well. The Plano, Texas product posted a four-over-par 76 that moved him into a tie for 12th place with a 232 (75-81-76).
Two underclassmen rounded out the Loyola lineup in Central Illinois. Sophomore Kenny Mleko carded an 81 today that saw the Arlington Heights, Ill. native finish alone in 21st with a two-day total of 237 (77-79-81). Freshman Orion Yamat posted her third consecutive round of 80 to tie for 24th at 240 (80-80-80).
Loyola will wrap up the regular season portion of its spring schedule at the end of the week, April 15-16, when it travels to Muncie, Ind. for the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
