Bill Cornell Classic Final Results
CARBONDALE, Ill. (March 24, 2018) – The Loyola University Chicago track & field teams battled through less than ideal conditions today to pick up a pair of event titles at the Bill Cornell Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
Â
"We battled through some cold, blustery and wet conditions for the second week in a row but still had some encouraging performances," Loyola head track & field coach
Bob Thurnhoffer said. "Leron (Norton), Demetri (Panici) and Mimi (Reimers) really stood out and we also had some great showings from Michael (Papper), Lindsay (Walters), Vince (DiVenere), and our women's 100m dash runners. In the field, this was a case where our training didn't quite match performances but we'll get back to the lab next week and get ready for Florida and Raleigh. These next few weeks will be critical for us as we work through the middle portion of our season and prepare for the meets ahead."

In the men's 400m dash, junior
Leron Norton earned a first-place finish, crossing in 48.85 to edge out Johnny McGluen of Southern Illinois (48.98). Also taking home an event title was freshman
Mimi Reimers. Reimers cruised to victory in the 5,000m run, defeating her next closest competitor by nearly 19 seconds, as she posted a time of 17:34.39.
Â
Sophomore
Michael Papper clocked a new 200m dash personal best, turning in a time of 22.38 to finish sixth overall. In the 400m dash, sophomore
Lindsay Walters earned a third-place finish, checking in at 59.50.Â
Â
Freshman
Vince DiVenere continued the strong start to his outdoor season, taking fourth in 55.67. In the 1,500m run, sophomore
Demetri Panici turned in an impressive effort, finishing fifth with a time of 3:57.27. Senior
Stephen Hubona led the Ramblers in the field, where he finished fourth in the discus with a top toss of 147-10 (45.06m).Â

Loyola will split squads for the first time next weekend when it sends athletes to both the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
