Pepsi Florida Relays Results
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 29, 2018) – Sophomore
Michael Edwards and freshman
Tyler Elmore both established new personal bests as the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams opened competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
"We had a really nice first day at the Florida Relays," Loyola head track & field coach
Bob Thurnhoffer said. "We had some big breakthrough performances and identified a few things we need to work on. Michael and Tyler were very impressing today, crossing the line in some big personal bests. It always says a lot about a student-athlete when they respond to high-level competition and these guys did that. It's also been very cool conversing with the people down here in Florida about Loyola. The interest and excitement about this University is truly something special right now."
Elmore got the day off to a fast start for the Maroon & Gold in the 200m dash. The Bolingbrook, Ill. product crossed in 21.60, the seventh fastest time in school history, to finish 40
th overall.
Edwards, out of Zion, Ill. kept momentum rolling in the 400m dash as he checked in at 48.38 to take 14
th as he moved to ninth on the program's all-time outdoor record board. Junior
Leron Norton (49.23, 22
nd) and senior
Samuel Urben (50.16, 31
st) also saw action in the event.
Junior
Natajah Simmons led the charge for the Rambler women, posting a time of 25.10 to finish 74
th in the 200m dash.
Loyola is back in action tomorrow at both the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Raleigh Relays.
