RALEIGH, N.C. (March 30, 2018) – Redshirt junior
Lindsey Brewis and senior
Cassie Bloch both turned in sparkling performances to lead the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams on the opening day of the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
Brewis dazzled in the 5,000m run, where she posted a time of 16:19.63 to finish 15
th overall. That time vaults the Dearborn, Mich. native up to second on Loyola's all-time outdoor record board in the event, leaving her trailing only Gina Valgoi (15:55.56).
Bloch, out of St. Claire Shores, Mich., checked in at 4:30.35 to take 33
rd in the 1,500m run and further solidify her spot in eighth on the program's record board. Sophomore
Rita Maurais notched a personal-best of her own in the same event, clocking a time of 4:37.77.
"Lindsey had a really solid effort today," Loyola assistant coach
Alan Peterson commented. "She closed fast and hopefully put her in a qualifying position for the regional meet. Cassie also had a good opener. We had to take a short break in training so to come out and run a personal best is a good sign that we're headed in the right direction."

Riley DeMeulenaere narrowly missed out on moving into Loyola's top 10 in the 3,000m steeplechase. He came across at 9:13.82 to earn a 16
th-place finish. Junior
Kevin White finished 31
st in the 1,500m run, checking in at 3:50.58, while redshirt senior
Alex Baker took 58
th in the 10,000m run in 30:58.32.
The Ramblers also wrapped up competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. this afternoon. In the 4x400m relay, the quartet of senior

Leron Norton, sophomore
Michael Edwards and freshman
Tyler Elmore battled through the rain to come in at 3:14.57 en route to finishing 16
th. Elmore also saw action in the 100m dash, where he moved into a tie for ninth all-time at Loyola following a run of 10.90.
Loyola wraps up action at the Raleigh Relays tomorrow beginning at 9:45 a.m. (CT).
