Bryan Clay Invitational Results | Mt. SAC Relays Results

AZUSA, Calif. (April 19, 2018) – Redshirt junior Lindsey Brewis turned in a personal-best showing in the 5,000m run as she punched her ticket to next month's NCAA West Regional to highlight the day for the Loyola University Chicago track & field team in California.

"We fly out to California every year to chase down some big personal bests and to try to snag some regional qualifications," Loyola head track & field coach Bob Thurnhoffer said.  "Today was exactly what we were looking for.  Riley (DeMeulenaere) showed he is ready to make a podium finish at MVC's and really isn't too far off earning a berth to regionals.  Lindsey was absolutely awesome.  Her mark is a virtual guarantee to make it to Sacramento State in late May.  I can't wait to see what the rest of the weekend holds for us."
 
Competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., Brewis came across in 16:14.16, shaving just over five seconds off of her previous personal best en route to finishing 14^th in her heat.  The Dearborn, Mich. native's time from this evening extended her advantage atop the Missouri Valley Conference leaderboard in the event and unofficially ranks 13^th on the NCAA West Region chart.
 
"Lindsey had a great opportunity tonight and took full advantage of it," Loyola assistant coach Alan Peterson commented.  "She really gritted it out, especially after not having the greatest last few weeks of training.  I'm really proud of the way she competed and accomplished the goal that we set out for this trip."
 
Sophomore Riley DeMeulenaere turned in a personal best of his own in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif.  Out of Brookfield, Wis., DeMeulenaere finished 19^th overall as turned in a time of 9:09.19, the eighth fastest mark in school history.  He sits just under five seconds off the Valley lead in the event.
 
Loyola returns to action at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.
