CHICAGO (October 26, 2020) – The 2020-21 academic year marks the 25
th season that Loyola University Chicago's basketball programs have called Gentile Arena home and we will be looking back at some of the greatest games, moments and players of the first quarter-century of the building's history.
In addition to being the home to the men's and women's basketball programs, Gentile Arena has also been the primary home for the Ramblers' men's and women's volleyball teams for nearly a decade.
For more than two decades, Gentile Arena has played host to a Loyola national championship, a handful of conference titles, unforgettable games, graduations and visits from the Dalai Lama, among other memorable moments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance for games is still undetermined for the 25
th year of Gentile Arena, but fans are encouraged to follow the Ramblers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @LoyolaRamblers to relive all of the celebrations and memories. Fans can also follow all four individual teams that call Gentile Arena home (@RamblersMBB, @RamblersWBB, @RamblersMVB and @RamblersWVB).
Gentile Arena opened its doors for its first official competition on November 23, 1996 (it was then known as the Gentile Center) when the men's basketball team christened the facility with a victory over Eastern Kentucky.
Following the 2010-11 season, the interior of Gentile Arena and the facility was given state-of-the-art upgrades during a six-month transformation that radically changed the look of the building's interior. Those changes included the installation of nearly 2,000 chairback seats, new concession stands, restrooms locker rooms, hospitality areas and a brand-new playing floor. Loyola re-opened a remodeled and modern Gentile Arena on November 26, 2011, with a win against Fordham in men's basketball.
Join us over the next few months as we celebrate the numerous unforgettable moments in the 25-year history of Gentile Arena. Fans are encouraged to submit their favorite Gentile Arena memories
