Loyola Wraps up Fall Season With Ninth at Flyer Invitational

Crawford led team with T-11 finish

KETTERING, Ohio (October 18, 2022) – After two days of golf in Kettering, Ohio, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team finishes their fall season with a ninth-place finish at the Flyer Invitational. Senior Timmy Crawford was the team's leading finisher, ending his week with a share of 11th.

The Ramblers combined to card a team total of 912 (298-303-311), finishing two strokes ahead of tenth place Cleveland State (299-306-309=914). Illinois captured the team title with an 881 (295-296-290) while Marshall's Tyler Jones took medalist honors with a 213 (74-68-71).

"It was just a brutal week of weather," said head coach Erik Hoops. "It barely got above 40 degrees with wind. I'm proud of how the guys battled through that. Another week where we just seemed to always be hunting for a fourth score, but what we did show is that we can hang with some of the best teams in country this week. The cream obviously rose to the top on the final day but showing we can compete at this level is huge for our program's future."

Crawford ended his week with a 221 (73-73-75), finishing one stroke ahead of PGA Tour University's number two ranked golfer Adrien Dumont de Chassart (74-74-73=222). Freshman Charlie Kulwin secured his best finish of the season so far, tying for 32nd with a 229 (74-76-79). Graduate student Tyler Anderson tied his season-low with a 71 in his first round, finishing his week with a 232 (T-48; 71-75-86). Freshman Sebastian Kasun posted a 235 (T-62; 80-79-76) while senior Zach Walsh rounded out the leaderboard with a 245 (T-76; 81-83-81).

"Overall, I feel very good about the direction of our program following the fall season," Hoops added. "Timmy is continuing to show he's a great leader for us and one of the better players in the Atlantic 10. With the freshmen having to play some big-time rounds, they're performing quite well for their start. The first semester is always the hardest for the new guys as we hit the ground running right from the start. They've handled that well and now it's time to take some stock of how the fall went, start coming up with some offseason plans and get ready for a fun spring schedule."

The Ramblers will look to take advantage of the offseason and will be back in action at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play, February 6-7, in Dade City, Fla.
