WESTLAKE, Ohio (October 4, 2022) – After a strong final round effort from senior
Timmy Crawford, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team wrapped up the Tom Tontimonia Invitational with an eleventh-place finish. Crawford fired the low round of the weekend for the Ramblers with an even-par 71 in his final round to finish tied for 10
th with a 216 (72-73-71).
Oakland captured the team title with a combined score of 863 (295-283-285), just two strokes ahead of Butler (294-290-281=865). Dayton's Henry May (73-66-71) took individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 210. The Ramblers finished their weekend with a team score of 890 (294-304-202) to finish four strokes ahead of host Cleveland State (301-302-291=894).
"Got to take the good with the bad this week," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "The good being that we had the game this week to compete. A very bunched leaderboard meant we always felt like we were in the hunt for a decent finish. Unfortunately, it seemed like every round we were hoping for a better fourth counter that just never came, especially in the second round."
Crawford was the team's leading finisher with freshman
Charlie Kulwin finishing behind him with a 224 (41
st; 75-75-74). Freshman
Sebastian Kasun (77-74-75) and senior
Zach Walsh (72-82-72) shared 44
th place, each firing a 226 to finish two shots behind Kulwin. Graduate student
Tyler Anderson rounded out the leaderboard for the Maroon & Gold to finish in 71
st with a 234 (75-82-77).
"Another good week for Timmy," Hoops added. "He's been a great leader for us and I really think the new guys are picking up a lot from his play and how he handles his way around the course. They're staying in rounds and fighting through some bad stretches and not letting rounds get out of hand. Those will be important for us going forward. We have one more week against a solid field in Dayton to wrap up our first Atlantic 10 fall season. I'm hoping we can use this off week to get ourselves peaking for the right week."
The Ramblers will look to do just that when they travel to Kettering, Ohio, for the Flyer Invitational, October 17-18.
