Loyola Finishes Fourth In MVC All-Sports Standings

Ramblers picked up regular season or tournament titles in four sports in 2021-22

CHICAGO (June 2, 2022) – Loyola University Chicago has placed fourth in the 2021-22 Missouri Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy race. Loyola's score of 6.329 is its best since joining the league for the 2013-14 season.

Illinois State claimed the top spot in the MVC All-Sports Trophy standings, compiling a score of 7.894 and the Redbirds were followed by Missouri State (6.942) and Southern Illinois (6.369).

Loyola had another successful season in competition, winning Missouri Valley Conference regular season or tournament titles in men's basketball, women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's cross country during the 2021-22 academic calendar.

That success comes on the heels of a challenging 2020-21 year in which the Ramblers collected league titles in men's basketball, men's golf, women's soccer and women's cross country and finished sixth in the MVC All-Sports Trophy race.

The All-Sports Trophy is based on a school's average finish in each of the sponsored championships by the Missouri Valley Conference. Teams are awarded 10 points for first, nine for second, eight for third, etc., and the total accumulated points are divided by the number of sports in which a particular school competes. For sports not sponsored by every MVC school, the points decrease by number of competing schools (i.e. in a sport where eight teams compete, 10/8 = 1.25, so point totals decrease by 1.25; 1st= 10, 2nd= 8.75, 3rd= 7.5, etc.).

Finishes in baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis and women's volleyball are based on regular-season competition. However, institutions receive three bonus points for each league post-season championship earned in those aforementioned sports. All other sports are determined by finish at the championship tournament or meet.
