Aher Uguak To Work Out For Orlando Magic

Defensive stalwart is currently playing for Edmonton Stingers in CEBL

CHICAGO (June 4, 2022) – Aher Uguak (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay/New Mexico), who wrapped up his eligibility with the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team this season, will work out for the NBA's Orlando Magic this weekend. A two-time Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive Team selection in his career (2020-21, 2021-22), the 6-foot-7 forward was also a Third Team All-MVC pick in 2020-21.

The versatile Uguak is the second Rambler from the 2021-22 roster to have worked out for a NBA team in advance of the NBA Draft, which will be held June 23. Lucas Williamson has already worked out for the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.

Ranked ninth on Loyola's career field goal percentage chart (.532), Uguak had his best all-around season as a Rambler in 2021-22, providing head coach Drew Valentine's squad with 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest, while scoring in double figures on 14 occasions. He came up big in the Ramblers' victory over Drake in the title game of the MVC Championship, collecting his lone double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

In 2020-21, Uguak secured Third Team All-MVC and MVC Most Improved Team recognition after putting up 7.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. A key to Loyola's success, over his final two seasons in a Rambler uniform, Loyola posted a 20-2 record when he scored 10 or more points.

After transferring to Loyola following one season at the University of New Mexico, Uguak was an instrumental part of the Ramblers' success during his five years on the Rogers Park campus. In 2017-18, he sat out the season following his transfer from New Mexico, but helped the Ramblers reach the NCAA Final Four, then was a part of two more NCAA Tournament teams (2020-21, 2021-22) as a starter and key contributor.

Uguak is currently playing for the Edmonton Stingers in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) and was sensational in his professional debut with his hometown team, tallying 20 points on May 27 versus the Niagara River Lions.
