DES MOINES, IOWA (September 26, 2022) – After a second-round masterclass from senior
Timmy Crawford, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team finds itself in 5
th place after day one of the Zach Johnson Invitational. Crawford was able to overcome a challenging first round to climb to a tie for 13
th on the individual leaderboard.
The Ramblers opened competition with a team score of 304 in the first round, placing them in 9
th place. They then went on to shave seventeen strokes off of their score to post a 287 in their second round to catapult them to 5
th place. North Dakota State (277-283=559) holds a convincing lead after 36-holes, currently sitting at eight under-par as a team.
Crawford opened play with a six-over 77 in his opening round. The Arlington Heights, Ill. product flipped the switch in the second round, carding five birdies to post a four under-par 67 to give the Maroon & Gold their first round in the sixties for the season. His second-round effort moved him up from 39
th on the leaderboard to 13
th after 36-holes with a total of 144 (77-67).
Freshman
Sebastian Kasun paced the Ramblers on the individual leaderboard, shooting a one under-par 70 in his first round to post his low round of the year so far. The Elm Grove, Wis. native finished a shot ahead of Crawford, ending the day with a 143 (70-73) to give him a share of 10
th. Senior
Zach Walsh utilized a second-round 73 to move into a tie of 35
th with a 151 (78-73) while brother
Ryan Walsh finished tied for 49
th (80-74=154). Freshman
Dori Lee finished one shot behind
Ryan Walsh, improving by three strokes in his second round to card a 155 (79-76) and tie for 52
nd.
The Ramblers begin their final round on Tuesday morning with a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
