Borum's 2,000th Assist Propels Ramblers to Series Sweep Over URI

Loyola Chicago beats Rhode Island in straight sets

Box Score CHICAGO – The Loyola University Chicago women's volleyball team put an exclamation mark on its regular season after dismantling Rode Island in straight sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-20) Saturday afternoon inside Gentile arena, sealing the Senior Weekend series sweep. Additionally, in the second set, junior setter Bree Borum achieved her 2,000th career assist.

With the win, Loyola has swept 14 opponents thus far and extended its win streak to 16-straight, building on its program record.

"I think it was neat to be able to get a lot of our players in and get them some experience - I thought they played composed again," said head Loyola coach Amanda Berkley. "I just want to say that I'm really proud of this group of seniors. They've really done a lot for this program. They've gone to three conference championship title games. They've taken this program to new heights every year. Last year, we broke records, and this year, we're still breaking records. I'm just really proud of this group of seniors for how they've been able to take Loyola women's volleyball to the next level,"

How It Happened
The Ramblers (18-11,16-2 A10) got things going with a 3-0 run in the first set which was sparked by Borum's kill. However, with Loyola Chicago up, 9-7, URI (4-26,1-17 A10) took off on a 4-0 run to claim a 10-9 edge. The Maroon and Gold regrouped and embarked on a massive 16-5 run through the remainder of the set.

In the second frame, Emily Banitt's ace capped a 10-3 Ramblers' run to open the action. Another run from the 'Blers – this time a 7-1 sprint – extended their lead to 17-6. Olivia Gardner's kills plus a Rams' attack error ended the set, 25-12, Loyola.

The third and final set was very competitive with Rhode Island logging its best hitting percentage of the day (.108). The Rams owned a 12-10 lead midway through the set before Loyola Chicago regained control with a 7-1 run, making the score 1-13 after Karlie McNabb's kill from Borum. URI later came within four points at 21-17, LUC, but the 'Blers ended the set on a 4-1 run to finish things off.
