CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago head men's basketball coach
Drew Valentine announced the addition of two new signees to the program Wednesday afternoon. Brayden Young is a forward out of Houston, while Jack Turner is a guard coming from Los Angeles.
"As always, Signing Day is a HUGE day for the future of our program," said Valentine. "Our staff has targeted high character student-athletes that come from great families and want to be a part of our championship culture as bad as we want them. We feel great about our future with the addition of these young men and are excited about their futures as Ramblers!"
Brayden Young | Forward | 6-9 | 195 | Houston, Texas – Cypress Falls
Young is a letterwinner out of Cypress Falls in Houston, Texas. He was named a 2021-22 Second Team All-District 17-6A selection. He repeated the honor in 2022-23 for District 16-6A. As a junior, Young averaged 7.7 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 1.6 blocks per game. He shot over 60 percent from the field that same season. Young is also a member of the academic honor roll.
Valentine on Young: "Brayden has been on a rapid ascend over the course of the past year and is a true late bloomer. Having just turned 17 in July, we see value not only the impact he can have immediately, but his long-term potential. He's a fast twitch athlete at his size with speed, vertical pop, and lateral quickness. But not only is he impressive physically, he has good ball skills as well as natural touch finishing and shooting. Brayden comes from a GREAT family and has very good basketball pedigree as well. He's also played for winning programs in the state of Texas in both high school and AAU. Our coaching staff is excited to have him in the fold!"
Jack Turner | Guard | 6-3 | 165 | Los Angeles, Calif. – St. John Bosco
Turner is a four-year letter winner out of St. John Bosco in Los Angeles, California. He's a two-time All-State and All-Trinity League selection, earning the honors as a sophomore and junior. Last season, Turner averaged 15.3 points per game and 4.1 assists per game. He shot 42 percent from three-point range and 88 percent at the line. Ahead of the state playoffs, Turner posted one of his best performances to date with 25 points, 9 boards, three assists, and a pair of steals.
Valentine on Turner: "Jack is someone that we targeted early in assessing our needs in this class. We were looking someone that can create offense on their own as a ball handler and Jack fits that mold. He's a tough, slippery, and shifty shot creator that can also facilitate offense and has a good feel for the game. Jack comes from an amazing family and one of the best high school programs in the state of California, where he's been very well coached and WON at a high level. His commitment to our program for the time that he has been also shows the character and pride he has in being a part of our culture! Can't wait to coach him!"
