SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (March 13, 2023) - Timmy Crawford paced the Loyola men's golf team Monday as the Ramblers competed in the first two rounds of the Ross Collegiate Classic, held at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
The Ramblers fired an opening round 296 (+8) to sit in a tie for 11th before making a move up the leaderboard in the second round. Loyola was 2-under as a team in the second round, and in eight place on the team leaderboard, before play was suspended due to darkness.
Crawford, one of two Ramblers still on the course when play was halted, was 6-under on the round with two holes to play. After firing a 2-under 70 in the opening round, Crawford opened the front nine of his second round with five birdies and while not dropping a stroke on the other four holes. Crawford's sixth birdie on the day came on the 11th hole and moved Crawford to 6-under.
The senior dropped a stroke on 14th to move back to 5-under before following it up with an eagle on the Par 5 15th to move to 7-under for the round. A bogey on the 16th set Crawford back down to 6-under when play was suspended. Crawford currently sits in sole possession of second place at 8-under for the tournament, one shot back of George Washington's Jakub Hrinda, who completed his second round.
Zach Walsh, who will need to complete the 18th hole when play resumes Tuesday, is tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard at 1-over. Walsh posted an opening-round 74 (+2) and is currently 1-under through 17 holes of the second round behind four birdies and a trio of bogeys.
Dori Lee carded an opening-round 74 before following it up with a 76 in the second round on Monday to sit in a tie for 51st at 6-over. After posting a 78 in the opening round,
Charlie Kulwin improved by five strokes in the second round to shoot a 1-over 73 and sit in a tie for 58th.
Sebastian Kasun posted rounds of 80 (+8) and 79 (+9) to sit in 87th position on the individual leaderboard.
Action will resume Tuesday morning, with 20 players still needing to complete the second round. Play will immediately roll over into the third and final round of competition.
