Jason Clayton wrapped the 2023 outdoor track & field season Friday night in the NCAA West Preliminaries. Clayton represented Loyola in the 1,500 quarterfinals after advancing in the first round earlier this week.
Clayton appeared in the second heat of Friday's action and took 11th in his heat with a time of 3:45.60. It marked the first appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals for the Australia native, and his second straight season competing in the NCAA West Preliminary.
The race capped a stellar sophomore season for Clayton. He opened the outdoor slate with a personal best in the 800 at the Raleigh Relays logging a time of 1:52.11. A few weeks later, he landed third on the 1,500 top-10 list with a PR of 3:41.76, which helped claim his spot at the preliminaries. At the A-10 championships, Clayton finished fourth overall in the 1,500 with a time of 3:46.32.
To top off his performances, Clayton clocked 3:44.51 in the 1,500 first round for third-place in his heat punching his ticket to the quarterfinals. He was one of three Ramblers competing in Sacramento.Â
