CHICAGO – The Loyola University Chicago track and field team is gearing up to compete at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships in Fairfax, Va., this weekend (May 4-5) at George Mason Stadium. The championship's running events will commence Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET. Sunday, the action is set to start at 11 a.m. ET.
The Ramblers enter the weekend fresh off a strong performance at the Elmhurst Twilight Invitational last Thursday (April 25). Four Ramblers won their respective events in the team's final meet prior to the postseason. Â
Emma Watcke, who won the women's 1,500m, headlined the meet with a blistering time of 4:22.08. She now sits No. 3 all-time in program history.
Miguel Abaitua logged at time of 1:51.49 and won the men's 800m. He was just two seconds shy of a personal record, but nonetheless, he was subsequently named the A-10 Track Performer of the Week for his efforts in Elmhurst. His plaudit marked Loyola's third of the outdoor season.
Autumn Dushack achieved a new personal record in the women's 5K with a time of 17:49.25. The senior won the event by cutting nearly a minute off her previous record.
Nate Boutin took first place in the men's 1,500m, clocking in at 3:57.98. He finished more than four seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
The Ramblers are aiming to build on their recent achievements as they gear up for the outdoor championships this weekend.
At last season's A-10 Outdoor Championships, the Rambler men finished eighth out of 13 teams, while the women finished 11th out of 15.
