Dr. Bohnert Named Faculty Athletic Representative

CHICAGO - Dr. Amy Bohnert, Professor of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, was named the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) at Loyola Chicago in the summer of 2024. The FAR is a liaison between University Faculty and the Department of Athletics. In this role, Dr. Bohnert will also serve on the national level as a representative for the institution in conference and NCAA affairs.

"Dr. Bohnert is a great fit for the role of Faculty Athletics Rep," said Athletic Director Steve Watson. "In addition to being a well-respected member of our faculty, she also competed at the highest level of college athletics as a swimmer at the University of Michigan. She has already jumped right into her new role and the entire athletic department is excited to work with her."

"The FAR position serves to reinforce the University's commitment to the notion of the 'student athlete,'" added Provost Dr. Douglas Woods. "Given the academic success of Loyola's student-athletes and the strong commitment to academic excellence in the athletic department, I am very pleased that Dr. Bohnert has agreed to serve in this important position."

Dr. Bohnert started at Loyola in 2002 and has more than 50 publications focused on how various contextual influences promote health and well-being among children and adolescents. During her time competing as a student-athlete in the Big Ten, her team won three conference titles.

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to work more closely with student-athletes and coaches as well as the athletic administration to build on the great culture and work being done here," said Bohnert. "Our student-athletes stand out not only on the fields and courts, but in the classroom and for their humanity, and I am eager to support them on their journey."
