DAYTON, Ohio — An early goal proved to be the difference as Loyola Chicago fell 1-0 at Dayton on Saturday night at Baujan Field, closing out the 2025 season.
"Tonight was a very tight conference game," said Loyola Head Coach
Steve Bode. "Credit to Dayton for getting an early goal and making us chase the game. I thought our response was very good — we went right back at them and created some chances of our own. In the end, we couldn't capitalize to secure a result. I'm very proud of our seniors and the perseverance they showed all season long."
How it Happened
The Flyers (6-2-7, 4-1-3 Atlantic 10) scored in the third minute when Martin Bakken found the net off an assist from Andrew Armstrong. Despite the early deficit, Loyola (4-5-7, 1-3-4 A-10) settled into the match and battled evenly the rest of the way.
Aidan Crawford recorded four saves in goal to keep the Ramblers within striking distance, while
Grant Bailey,
Benji Chavarria,
Arved von Vegesack and
Jack McFeely each generated second-half chances. Loyola finished with six total shots and two corner kicks, holding the Flyers scoreless for the final 87 minutes.
The result marked the end of a competitive campaign for the Ramblers, who earned points in five of their eight conference matches and posted three shutouts on the year.
