Ramblers Embark on Ireland Tour

CHICAGO – The Loyola Chicago men's golf squad is headed international with a trip to Ireland this week. The Ramblers will see the sights and play golf at five different courses over the eight-day trip.

"The overall plan for the trip is to fly from Chicago to Dublin," stated head coach Peter Pougnet. "Explore Dublin with sightseeing of Blarney Castle and Stone, Cliffs of Moher, and a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral. We will also play golf at Cork Golf Club, Castlemartyr Golf Club, Enniscrone Golf Course, Carne Golf Links, and The Island Golf Course.  Ireland is so rich in the game of golf and a big part of the culture there. We plan on embracing the everything Ireland has to offer."

The Ramblers land in Dublin on Aug. 14 and head out on a walking tour where they'll see St. Patricks Cathedral and Trinity College before departing for Cork.

In Cork, Loyola will get its first taste of the course at the Cork Golf Club followed by a visit to Blarney Castle and Stone. The Ramblers will play another round at Castlemartyr Golf Course on Aug. 16 before making the quick trip to Ennis where a visit to the Cliffs of Moher will kick off Sunday's action.

Loyola will then head to Castlebar and play a round at Enniscrone Golf Course on Aug. 19 before seeing Carne Golf Links on Aug. 19.

The trip will wrap back up in Dublin at The Island Golf Course on Aug. 20 before the Ramblers return to Rogers Park to gear up for the fall season.

"I'm extremely grateful to everyone who has been part of planning this trip. From Tom Sorboro to our travel agency, I can only imagine the work and planning that has gone on for over a year now," said Pougnet. "I am really excited to get the opportunity to meet and be around the guys before our season starts. It is an opportunity we won't take for granted and it gives us a chance to see a new culture, come together as a team, and create memories for a lifetime.

"A huge thank you to Steve Watson, our athletic director, for allowing this trip and supporting men's golf with this incredible student-athlete experience," finished Pougnet. "We are so thrilled that the student-athletes get to experience this opportunity. Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible - we could have not done it without you!
