Amani Bryant is preparing to begin her first season as an assistant coach with the Loyola Univeristy Chicago track & field teams. Bryant will work primarily wth the Ramblers' women's sprinters and hurdlers.
“Amani came highly recommended from some coaching friends that I greatly respect,” Loyola head track & field coach Bob Thurnhoffer commented. “From there, we clicked immediately and I knew that she would be the perfect fit for the culture that we are building within our program. Amani checks all the boxes for us. She competed at the highest level of Division I track & field at Florida, volunteered at Penn State, and spent the last year at Loyola New Orleans. She also has the attitude and hunger to grow in the profession that is integral to who we are as a program here at Loyola. Just as important is her influence from training herself as an athlete and undergoing coaching education through Altis, an elite track & field training group that I have deep ties to as well. Amani has a bright future here as she’ll lead our women’s sprints and hurdles group and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Bryant is no stranger to coaching at a Jesuit institution, having served as an assistant coach at Loyola University New Orleans during the 2018-19 season. Prior to her time with the Wolf Pack, Bryant spent a year as a volunteer assistant coach at Penn State, where she helped guide the Nittany Lions’ men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams to the NCAA East Preliminary, with the men’s side ultimately advancing on to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also coached sprinters with the State College HEAT Track Club.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Bryant was a four-year letterwinner on the track & field team at the University of Florida. She made three appearances at the NCAA Championships, highlighted by a junior campaign that saw her earn All-America honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with the Gators’ 4x400m relay.
Bryant earned her bachelor’s degree from the College of Health and Human Performance at Florida. She has also received certification as a master personal fitness trainer from both the American Aerobic Association International and International Sports Medicine Association.
