Armelia Horton Headshot

Armelia Horton

Armelia Horton begins her sixth year with the Loyola University Chicago women's basketball program in 2021-22.  Now in her second season as an assistant coach, Horton spent her first four years in Rogers Park as Director of Women's Basketball Operations. facilitating team travel, film exchange, and managing the program's budget.

"Arm is a winner," Loyola head women's basketball coach Kate Achter said. "I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines for her most successful seasons as a player, and now I get to witness her succeed professionally. Armelia will be such a great asset to our program going forward. She is extremely hard working, resilient and genuine. I couldn't ask for a better role model for our players."

Horton arrived at Loyola following a successful playing career at St. Bonaventure University. The 5-foot-10 guard racked up 112 victories during her time with the Bonnies, the most for any men's or women's basketball player in school history. Horton was a fixture on the floor for head coach Jim Crowley as she appeared in 121 games following an injury-shortened freshman season that limited her to only nine appearances.

As a redshirt senior in 2011-12, Horton was a driving force behind St. Bonaventure's magical run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Bonnies racked up a program-record 31 wins that season and became the smallest active Division I school to ever advance to the Sweet 16. Horton started in all 23 contests she appeared in that season, chipping in 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to work with Coach Achter again," Horton commented. "Kate was a true leader and mentor on and off the court at St. Bonaventure and I know this will resonate at Loyola University. I'm thrilled to be back in the basketball world and am looking forward to the new season."

Horton earned a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing to go along with an Accounting minor from St. Bonaventure in 2011 before collected a Master's Degree in Marketing from the school in 2012.
