Kyle Nelson joined the Loyola University Chicago athletics staff in February 2023, when he was named Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services.
In his role, Nelson will direct the Department of Student-Athlete Academic Services while providing direct support to the men's and women's basketball programs.
Prior to Loyola, Nelson served as senior academic advisor at the University of Minnesota since 2016, where he worked directly with several of the Gophers athletic programs. Most recently he supported women's hockey, baseball, men's track & field and women's tennis.Â
Nelson completed his master's degree in sport administration from Northwestern University in 2016, while simultaneously serving as assistant women's basketball coach at Lake Forest College.Â
For three years, Nelson played professional basketball in Europe with stops in Latvia, the Republic of Georgia and Romania.
Nelson graduated from Augustana College (IL) with degree in Mathematics and Finance. He was a co-captain on the men's basketball team, where he was named a two-time All-Region and All-Conference selection. Nelson helped lead the Vikings to the program's second-highest win total (27-4), a conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth, along with a No. 3 national ranking during his senior season.
