Valerie Jones-Mohr is entering her first year as head coach for the Loyola University Chicago Dance Team, bringing a lifetime of competitive dance experience and six years of coaching success. Coaching has long been a passion of Jones-Mohr's, one she first envisioned for herself during her own years as a competitive dancer. Her coaching philosophy centers on positivity and individualized attention for each dancer, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, loyalty, and dedication.
A native of Northwest Indiana, Jones-Mohr grew up training at a competitive dance studio, where she developed a versatile foundation across jazz, ballet, lyrical, tap, pom, and hip hop. She went on to join her school's competitive dance team, helping lead the program to five state championships.
Jones-Mohr continued her dance career at Ball State University, where she studied telecommunications and journalism. She danced for the Code Red Dance Team and was part of the first Code Red team to compete at UDA College Nationals, placing 9th in Division 1A Hip Hop.
Her coaching and teaching career began in 2020 at 4.1.3. Dance Academy, where she continues to train dancers on the competitive team. Jones-Mohr also supports and choreographs for numerous dance teams throughout Indiana. Most recently, she spent three years as a coach with the Crown Point High School Dance Team, where she helped coach the program to multiple IHSDTA state championships and a UDA National Championship.
Jones-Mohr brings a wealth of competitive and choreographic experience — along with her values-driven approach to coaching — to Loyola, where she looks forward to building on the program's strong tradition of excellence.
