Dayton, Ohio (February 4, 2004) - Loyola University Chicago (7-14, 3-8 Horizon) shot 50 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough as Wright State (12-9, 9-2 Horizon) earned an 83-71 victory at the Nutter Center tonight. Loyola has now dropped nine of its last ten contests.
The Ramblers got off to a quick start and shot the lights out in the opening period, draining 61 percent of their tries from the field. Wright State turned several offensive rebounds into baskets and took a slim 37-36 lead at the break.
Wright State opened the second half by going on a 12-3 run to open up a 49-39 lead. Loyola fought back with a 16-4 run of its own to seize a 55-53 lead with 9:52 left in regulation, but the Raiders scored six of the next eight points and never looked back.
Terrance Whiters came of the bench to record 22 points for LU while also dishing out six assists. Paul McMillan chipped in 18 points and added seven boards.
Wright State was paced by 21 points from freshman DaShaun Wood.
Loyola returns home to face Butler on Feb. 7.
