Rubin Scores Career-High in Sixth Double-Double, Ramblers Fall to Rams

RICHMOND – Miles Rubin notched his sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds at VCU Friday night. The Ramblers led by as much as 15 in the first half, but ultimately fell to the Rams, 89-75.
 
With the loss, Loyola drops to 5-18 overall and 1-9 in the A-10.
 
How It Happened
Loyola's offense sparked early on an 8-0 run that forced an early timeout by the Rams. VCU went 0-5 before finally getting on the board at the foul line. Loyola's lead grew to double figures with the help of a 7-0 run. Alexander Richardson had a layup to put Loyola up 14 by the 12:31 mark. VCU cut it back down to 10, but Miles Rubin tipped in a second-chance attempt for a 15-point lead just ahead of the midway point.
 
The Rams cut it down to nine twice before the seven-minute mark, but the Ramblers built it back to 14 with threes from Nic Anderson and Deywilk Tavarez. Xavier Amos gave Loyola its last double-digit lead with a second-chance layup with 4:31 to play, 39-29. The Rams chipped it down and tied it off a turnover with a minute to go, 44-44. Rubin sank two from the line, but VCU had the final say of the half and tied it yet again at the break, 46-46.
 
The Rams opened the second with four unanswered points to take their first lead of the game. They built their lead to nine after capitalizing on a Loyola turnover with 14:50 to go. By the 9:59 media timeout, the Ramblers had made one of their last seven and allowed VCU to go up by 12.
 
Rubin, Tavarez, and Xavier Amos cut the lead down to 10 on three occasions by the 6:43 mark. Anderson sparked an 8-2 run to get the Ramblers within six. He had the first five points of the stretch. It was the closest Loyola could get down the stretch. VCU answered with four straight and went on to win, 89-75.

- Rubin tied his career-high 21 points and grabbed 10 boards. It marks his sixth double-double of the season and fourth consecutive game with 10 or more rebounds.
- Amos added 18 points and eight rebounds. He went 7-12 from the field.
- Justin More tallied a team-high five assists.

- VCU went 24-29 at the line to Loyola's 11-16.
