Dayton, Ohio - Loyola rebounded from a game-one hiccup and cruised to a 3-1 (26-30, 30-28, 30-21, 30-24) win over Wright State tonight at McLin Gymnasium in Dayton, Ohio. For the Ramblers, the win was the 12th straight over their longtime conference rival and pushed their season record to 4-11, 3-1 Horizon.
"I was proud of how we came back tonight," said head coach Marcie Bomhack. "We did not play very well in the first game but regrouped in game two and finally found a rhythm and played solid over the last two games. This win also gives us some momentum heading into a tough match tomorrow at Butler."
Loyola's defense was the key to the match as the Ramblers, despite hitting just .124, held the hosts to a .091 percentage in game three and a -.109 efficiency in the finale.
Hilary Stromath had 14 kills to lead a balanced Loyola attack. Keily Zins added a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs while Courtney Ashley added nine kills, 16 digs and a season-best five aces. Sarah Elmer dished out 36 kills and added a career-high 15 digs in orchestrating the offense.
Loyola wraps up weekend play tomorrow when it faces Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
