Wright State Races Past Loyola, 80-55

Jan. 11, 2006

Box Score

Fairborn, Ohio - The first five minutes of each half proved to be the difference as Wright State jumped out to an 18-2 lead then outscored Loyola 17-5 to open the second half en route to an 80-55 win over the Ramblers tonight at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.

After the opening run, Loyola regrouped nicely and got back into the game. Hoops from Danielle Lonie and Jenna Real helped stem the tide and a Jana Lucas lay-up later pulled Loyola within nine, 21-12, at the 7:07 mark of the half. Marquise Hanser drilled a jumper to get LU within eight and the teams, essentially, traded hoops over the last 5:56 with Wright State taking a 30-21 lead into intermission.

After Wright State reeled off the first six of the second half to take a 36-21 lead, Loyola made a push, with Ponder scoring and Hanser splitting a pair from the line to cut it to 12 (36-24) with 17:40 on the clock. However, turnovers helped Wright State open a 21-point bulge and the Ramblers would get no closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Hanser finished with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists with Real (11 points, eight rebounds) also reaching double figures. Kendra Agee led four Raiders in double figures with 17 points and added three steals, helping Wright State to a 40-13 edge in points off turnovers.

Loyola returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it makes the short trip to Illinois-Chicago. Tip-off from the UIC Pavilion is scheduled for 3 p.m.
