CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team got an early goal from freshman Alex Jones in their fourth consecutive Horizon League win, a 1-0 shutout victory against the Detroit on Friday night at Loyola Soccer Park. The Ramblers have won nine of their last 10 games and now stand 9-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Horizon League. Detroit fell to 5-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in Horizon League play.

Loyola scored the only goal of the game with 10:10 elapsed on the clock when Keum Sung Kim launched a cross from the left corner before Alex Jones headed the service into the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Kim now leads the team and is tied for third in the League with five assists.

"We came out strong and scored a critical early goal," head coach Brendan Eitz said. "Then we continued to show resilience with tough defense throughout the game."

The Ramblers continued to play staunch defense, allowing the Titans to attempt only three shots on goal for their eighth shutout of the season. LU has three shutouts in the last three games, spanning 270 minutes. Loyola has not allowed a goal to a Horizon League opponent, through 365:18 of play this season with shutouts of Cleveland State, Wright State, Butler and Detroit.

"Obviously, all of the players take a lot of pride in not giving up goals," Eitz said. "They have worked hard in training and have done everything we (as a coaching staff) have asked. They deserve the reward of eight shutouts this season."

Sean Bond earned his eighth shutout of the season, and ninth of his career, with a three-save performance to improve his record to 9-2 overall.

Loyola enjoys a week off before resuming Horizon League play at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 at UW-Green Bay.
