FAIRBORN, Ohio - Juniors Tara Miller and Nora Schober each drove in three runs to lead Loyola University Chicago (13-35, 7-7 Horizon) to a 10-2 rout of Wright State (6-29, 6-7 Horizon) this afternoon at WSU Softball Field. The Ramblers pounded out a season-high 14 hits on the day to as they claimed the rubber game of the three-game weekend series.
For the third straight game, Miller ignited the Loyola offense to a first-inning run as she led off today's contest with a solo home run over the wall in left center field. Lindsay O'Gean and Schober followed with singles, but the Ramblers were unable to dent the scoreboard again in the opening frame. Miller accounted for Loyola's next two runs as she roped a two-run double that scored Trish Oberhaus and Raven Gengler, in the top of the second to give Loyola a 3-0 edge that stayed that way until the sixth.
The Ramblers put the game out of reach in the sixth inning as they scored five runs to take an 8-0 lead. After Wright State cut into the deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Ramblers answered with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh on Schober's two-run single.
Freshman right-hander Laura DeLeon was impressive in the circle, scattering seven hits while not allowing an earned run, en route to her seventh win of the year. Miller was 2 for 3 with three RBI, a double, a homer and three runs scored, to raise her season average to .333. Schober was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and Kristin Guska, Katerina Krause and Oberhaus tallied a pair of hits apiece.
Loyola returns home when it plays a doubleheader against Illinois State on April 26 at 3 p.m.
