Box Score

CHICAGO - Freshman forward Michael Ferguson scored the first two goals of his career to lead the Loyola University men's soccer team to a 2-1 defeat of Buffalo Friday night at Loyola Soccer Park. The Ramblers improve to 2-3 with the win while Buffalo falls to 1-2-1.

Ferguson (Overland Park, Kan.) converted both of his shots on goal during the match and is now tied with fellow freshman, Alex Jones, for the team lead in goals through the first five games this season.

Junior Keum Sung Kim (Arlington Heights, Ill.) delivered a pass from midfield where Ferguson headed the ball past the Buffalo goal keeper for his first career goal at the 49:59 mark to put the Ramblers on the board first. Kim was credited with his first assist of the season.

Loyola bumped its lead to two goals about 10 minutes later, when Reed Cataldo (Birmingham, Mich.) cut up the sideline and skipped a crossing pass low to the ground to give Ferguson an open look at the net that he converted to give the Ramblers a 2-0 advantage.

With two goals on the evening, Ferguson became the first Loyola true freshman to have a multiple-goal game since teammate Tony DeLuca scored a pair of goals against Detroit on Oct. 29, 2004.

The second Loyola goal proved vital after Buffalo's Sola Abolaji converted a service from Lee Catchpole for its only goal of the night at the 73:34 mark.

Rambler senior Sean Bond (Dallas, Texas) notched three saves in his third consecutive start, to run his record to 2-1 with one shutout this season since taking on duties as starting goalkeeper in place of an injured Brad Sommer.

Loyola travels to Charleston, Ill. to play Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 10. The match is set to kick off at 3:15 p.m.
