Peoria, Ill. - Sophomore libero Alyse Serritella recorded a school-record 36 digs and Dana VanDiggelen pounded out a match-high 21 kills to lead Loyola to a 3-2 (30-32, 30-27, 23-30, 30-24, 18-16) win over Bradley tonight in Peoria, Ill. For the Ramblers (6-16), it was their second consecutive win - both in five games - and their second straight five-game win over the Braves (2-19).
"Again, I cannot say enough about how our team battled and kept fighting," said head coach Marcie Bomhack. "Dana was the catalyst again for the offense and her and Keily (Zins) each had good matches on the outside for us. Mallory (Curran) and Melissa (Craig) did some nice things for us in the middle and, obviously, Alyse had a great match in the back row."
Loyola outkilled Bradley, 80-61, for the match and also owned a 96-82 advantage in digs. However, the Ramblers had 13 hitting errors in game one and 13 more in game three - both Bradley wins - to keep the Braves in the match.
VanDigglen slammed her 21 kills at a .291 (21-5-55) clip to lead Loyola. Zins had another strong performance, finishing with 15 kills and 21 digs, while Lauren Ditscheit (34 assists, 10 digs) also recorded a double-double. Craig (14 kills, eight blocks) and Curran (12 kills, seven blocks) more than held their own in the middle and Ceci Mattei added a career-best nine kills to the offensive effort.
Serritella's 36 digs surpassed her career-high of 33 set earlier this season and bettered Arian Adams' previous record of 34 set against Milwaukee in 1997.
Loyola looks for their first three-match winning streak of the season on Friday night when the Ramblers take on UIC at Alumni Gym. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
