Ramblers Drop Heartbreaker In Game Two At UW-Green Bay

April 18, 2007

Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Despite eight hits in the game, Loyola University Chicago (13-15, 8-2 Horizon) dropped a 3-2 decision in game two of a doubleheader at UW-Green Bay (10-15, 2-5 Horizon) this afternoon at Phoenix Field. The loss was only the Ramblers' third in their last 12 contests.

The Ramblers got on the board first on Angie Funston's RB I single up the middle that plated Kristin Guska in the third inning. Loyola would cling to that 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Green Bay scored three runs despite only two hits as the Rambler defense committed three errors. Missy Schleicher delivered a run-scoring single to put the Phoenix ahead, 2-1 and they would add another run and never relinquish that lead.

Loyola cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth when Kat Krause scored on a throwing error. Later in the inning, the Ramblers appeared to be on the verge of tying the game, but Tara Miller was gunned down at the plate while trying to score on Nora Schober's flyout to center field.

Miller and Raven Gengler had a pair of hits apiece to lead the Loyola offensive attack in the nightcap.

The Ramblers are back in action this weekend when they play a three-game series at Horizon League rival Cleveland State, April 21-22.
