Late Free Throws Sink Cold-Shooting Loyola, 47-45

March 1, 2008

Box Score

Detroit, Mich. - Detroit's Zemora Davis hit two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to give Detroit a 47-45 win over Loyola this afternoon at Calihan Hall in Detroit, Mich. Loyola drops its fourth straight game and falls to 6-21 (4-11 Horizon) while the Titans improve to 6-21 (3-13) with their second straight win.

Loyola struggled to put the ball in the basket the entire game and, despite scoring just two points in a 10-minute stretch in the second half, appeared to muster enough late offense to, at least, force overtime. A pair of Brittany Boeke free throws and a hoop from Keisha Collins tied the game at 45 with 51 seconds left and the Loyola defense, which held Detroit to just 26% shooting for the game, forced a stop. After a timeout, the Ramblers turned the ball over driving the lane and were called for a foul in the backcourt, giving Davis the game-winning opportunity.

Jessica Hylton and Maggie McCloskey had 11 points each to lead Loyola while Boeke scored all 10 of her points in the second half to give LU a third scorer in double figures. Sandi Brown led Detroit with nine points.

Loyola wraps up regular season play with a pair of home games next week, starting with a Thursday night contest against Youngstown State.
